News and Announcements

This month we are celebrating Asian American Heritage Month. Wallace has many families who are Karen. The Karen (pronounced "Kah- Ren")people, now totaling over five million people, were one of, if not, the first inhabitants of what is now Burma. Throughout the centuries that followed they were constantly oppressed by the Burman rulers who took over the country. Now, the military government seeks to destroy the individual identity of the Karen people. History and language are being lost as the State Peace and Development Council bans all schools in Karen State from teaching their own language and history.
